It started with a random idea…

A while ago I thought of a random idea and decided to draw it (Links to the X post, available in other socials too). I then shared it without any context on NovaFan Games socials and it seems people have really liked it.

That brings up to today’s Community Highlight. This a drawing from artist Lucian.

  • Site redone and game updates too

Welcome to the new website for NovaFan Games. There’s several big news to share but I’ll try to keep it short as not everything is done yet.

First of all, as you may have already noticed, NovaFan Games now has its own domain. A huge thanks to all the people who have supported me through my Ko-fi page. This really wouldn’t have been possible without them. I’ll still be making a proper financial post on my personal blog with dedicated thanks to each of you and mentioning a few other details.

And now about the new site of NovaFan Games, it’s still under construction overall but for now I decided to keep the main page as this blog. The plan is to swap it to a proper homepage once the new games start being announced and there’s new art to use in the site’s design or games to showcase. The list of games has also been cleaned up and focuses on games that are being worked on specifically under the NovaFan Games label. Every other game that was moved off the list will be placed on my personal blog now as they were more like personal projects or experiments.

During the next few days, the site will be getting a few updates to finish off sections like pages related to the newest game and a few other small details that still need touching up. Some posts and specially game pages will get fixes too. Additionally, the frequency of blog posts sharing content related to our games will be increased including highlights from the community.

Last but not least, you can also join the NovaFan Games official Discord server by clicking here or on the link in the footer of the site. This way you can keep updated about anything related to NFG.

  • Button Speed Challenge now available!

    Surprise release!

Button Speed Challenge is a small game / tool that let’s you check how fast you can press a button. Originally, that was the only thing it was going to do but then I also decided to add a test to check your average reaction speed. You can play with either your keyboard or a gamepad (using whatever your controller detects as “button 1”).

Besides what’s currently available, not much will be updated or added to this game besides a few trophies. Leader boards are enabled for people with a Game Jolt account, so try to go for a high score.

    You can play it here.

  • Snow Fort Defense updated to v1.1.1

A small patch has been released for Snow Fort Defense which hopefully fixes the visual glitch when unlocking Game Jolt trophies. This is the last update for Snow Fort Defense. For more information about the game, click here.

  • Snow Fort Defense now available in Game Jolt too!

Snow Fort Defense is now also available on Game Jolt and supports both high scores and trophies! As I had previously mentioned, the online high scores was a feature I was planning on implementing since the start but I decided to also try adding Game Jolt trophies support after seeing how easy it would be to implement them.

Due to the fact that the original game wasn’t designed with an achievement system in mind, there is currently a small visual glitch when ever a trophy is unlocked, which will probably be fixed in a future patch. Besides that, though, the trophies unlock as they should and the game works the same. And, of course, the online high score system works perfectly.

You can play the new version of Snow Fort Defense at the URL below. The itch.io and IndieDB pages will be updated in the next few minutes.

  • Rie’s Candy Catch now available in Game Jolt… with high scores!

I know in the last post I implied that Rie’s Candy Catch would not be updated anymore but I decided to give it one more update. The game is now available on Game Jolt and includes high score functionality for both Regular Mode and Endless Mode. This is definitely the final update for it. You can play it through the following link: http://gamejolt.com/games/rie-s-candy-catch/120246

  • Update about a few things including future projects

Just a quick update about the current status of things here at NovaFan Games and about future projects.

First, wanted to mention quickly about the current games we have that Snow Fort Defense may be the only one that gets an update. That would probably be to update the highscore system since that’s the main point of that game.

Next, a bit of news and announcements about future projects.

    • “Castle Climber”(probably not final title) will be a small Web game focusing on using a minimum amount of buttons and colors, just like an old Game&Watch game. It’ll be the next game released as the main part of the gameplay is already done. The gameplay focus of it is to get the highest score as possible, similar to old arcade games or Game&Watch games. Made in Unity3D.
    • “Exit Door” will probably be the next released game (not really sure, though). As already specified in the game’s page, the game stars a blue robot trying to find the real exit in each room. The game does need to be redone, though, as the previous code is really old now. It’ll be a downloadable game for all computer OS, Windows, Linux, and OS X. Made in Unity3D.
    • And the latest and newest thing, currently only in codename and design stages. Project “Never Stop Dreaming” will be retro styled action platform game. With inspiration from Super Mario Bros. and Mega Man. Very likely will be a downloadable game too. Made in Unity3D.

And that’s all the news for now.

  • Snow Fort Defense and Rie’s Candy Catch now on WebGL

I just ported Rie’s Candy Catch and Snow Fort Defense to WebGL, so there shouldn’t be any issues on loading either game with Google Chrome now or in the future. Other browsers should work well too, including Firefox. Also, as a plus, you can now play these games on the web through Linux too. To play either game, you can use the links in the menu above.

  • Chrome and the Unity Plugin

Several weeks ago, Google released version 42 of their browser which disables NPAPI by default. Since all of our web games are played through the Unity Web Player, you won’t be able to play them directly through Chrome now. There two ways to fix this.

    1. Reenable NPAPI support in Google Chrome. This will make the Unity Web Player work again in Google’s browser. To do this, simply visit the following address and click on “Enable”:
chrome://flags/#enable-npapiYou’ll need to restart Chrome to see the results.
    2. Switch your browser. Simply download either Firefox or Opera instead. NPAPI is still enabled by default on those two.

Please remember that if you use the Chrome option, Google does plan to completely remove NPAPI support later this year in September, so the option 1 won’t work anymore after that.

Besides that, I’ll probably start converting our web games into WebGL, so that they will keep being playable in the future.
